Privacy Policy

What stays on your device

Your moments, the mood you tapped, your tags, your photos, your streaks, your goals, and your settings are stored on your device. They are not uploaded to us, and there is no server holding a copy of your journal.

What we never collect

• No name, email address, phone number, or date of birth.
• No advertising identifiers, and no advertising in the app.
• No third party analytics, no crash reporting service, and no tracking SDKs. Dayglean ships with no third party libraries at all.
• No location, and no contacts.
• We never sell or share your information with data brokers, because we do not hold it in the first place.

Pattern Drop, the one time text leaves your phone

A Pattern Drop is written by an AI model, and that means the moments it reads have to be sent off your device to be read. This only happens after you have accepted the cloud analysis consent screen in the app, and only for the moments in the period being looked at.

When you ask for a Pattern Drop, the app sends the date, the mood label, the tags, and the text of those moments to Dayglean's own server, which passes them straight to the API of Anthropic, our AI provider, and hands you back the observation it produced.

• Your moments are not stored on our server. They are held in memory for the length of the request and then gone.
• Your moments are never used to train AI models. Our provider is contractually barred from training on data sent through its API.
• Photos are never sent. Only text, mood, tags, and dates.
• If you never turn cloud analysis on, nothing you write ever leaves the device.

The install identifier

Each request carries a random identifier that the app makes up the first time it runs. It is not your device ID, it is not an advertising ID, and it is not tied to you or to any account. It exists only so the server can cap how many requests one copy of the app can make, which is what stops one person running up the bill for everyone. Deleting the app forgets it, and reinstalling makes a new one.

The same cap needs to see the network address the request arrived from, so the server keeps a short lived counter against it for two days and then drops it. It is counted, never linked to your moments, and nothing about what you wrote is stored beside it.

Health and Calendar

Both are off until you turn them on, and each has its own separate opt in on top of the system permission prompt. Dayglean reads sleep from Health, and busy days and birthdays from the calendars you pick, only to add context to a Pattern Drop.

Raw health records and raw calendar events never leave your device. What can travel, if you have turned the feature on, is a short derived note such as "slept under five hours last night" or "an unusually busy week". Dayglean never writes to Health and never writes to your calendar.

The cycle phase feature sits behind an extra confirmation on top of all of that, and it only ever produces an observational note. It never predicts, diagnoses, or labels anything clinically.

Microphone, speech, and photos

Speaking a moment instead of typing it uses Apple's speech recognition on your device to turn your voice into text. The audio is not recorded to a file and is not sent to us. Photo access is only ever requested so you can save a Pattern Drop card to your own photo library.

Face ID and the app lock

If you turn on the app lock, Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode is checked by iOS itself. Dayglean is told only whether the check passed. Your biometric data never reaches the app.

iCloud

Dayglean keeps a backup copy of your moments in your own iCloud account, and can sync them between your devices if you turn that on. That copy lives in your iCloud, under your Apple Account, governed by Apple's privacy policy. We have no access to it.

Your subscription

Payment is handled entirely by Apple. We never see your card, your billing address, or your Apple Account. To confirm that a Dayglean+ feature is paid for, the app forwards Apple's own signed receipt for the transaction, which contains the app ID, the product, the dates, and an anonymous transaction ID. It carries no name and nothing that could identify you.

Diagnostics, only when you send them

There is no crash reporter running in the background and no analytics service watching what you do. The one time technical information reaches us is when you tap "Send Diagnostic Info" in Settings yourself, usually because you are reporting something that went wrong.

That sends the last hour of the app's own runtime messages, your device model and iOS version, a random support ID, and whatever note you typed. Those messages are the app describing its own behaviour, such as a screen opening or a network call failing. They do not contain your moments. This is the one thing on this page that we do keep, because a bug report is no use if it disappears, and it is stored against the support ID rather than against you. Nothing is sent unless you tap the button.

Children

Dayglean is for people aged 16 and over. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 16.

What you can do

• Delete any moment, or all of them, from inside the app.
• Turn cloud analysis off at any time in Settings, which stops anything leaving the device from that moment on.
• Export everything you have written as a CSV or a PDF, so your journal is never trapped in the app.
• Delete the app. Because your journal lives on your device, removing the app removes it, along with the install identifier.

There is no account for us to delete on your behalf, because there was never one to begin with.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects what happens to your information, the date at the top of this page changes with it, and the app tells you before the change takes effect.
